Real Madrid on Tuesday walloped their opponent, APOEL Nicosi 6-0 to book a place in the second round of the UEFA Champions League. Goals from Christiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Nacho ensured that the Los Blancos finish second in Group H. The victory ended Real Madrid's winless spell having played goalless against City rival, Atletico Marid last weekend.

Reacting to the win, Madrid defender, Marcelo told reporters that the victory has restored confidence to the team.

"I'm always happy but tonight I'm happier than usual because we created a lot of opportunities and regained the confidence that we'd lost. We did a lot of good things; we kept a clean sheet, controlled the whole game, and are happy with the match."

He said the players were not going to exploit the victory to deride fans that have been critical of the performance of the players.

"We don't think about shutting mouths. We know that several people try to destroy what we've done so well. We try to please our fans with good football and we have to do exceptional things to make people happy."

"It was nice to see everyone play well. It's been a bad run but we've tried to do everything to win. The result against Atletico Madrid wasn't as we wanted, so it's nice to see everything go well, including Christiano and Benzema scoring."
