The National Assembly has put an end to speculations over the passage of the 2018 budget with the announcement that the appropriation bill will be passed into law on April 24.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, made the disclosure Wednesday during plenary.
According to the Speaker, the 2018 appropriation bill will be laid before both chambers of the NASS on April 19 and then passed the following Tuesday.
In November 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari presented the proposed budget to a joint session of the National Assembly.
Four months after, and with legislators blaming some ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) for the delay, Buhari on Wednesday mandated all MDAs to submit copies their budget details to the House of Representatives and Senates, and compulsorily honour invitations to defend the estimates.
The leadership of the NASS had last week met with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, with the budget among priority issues discussed.
