President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday meet with some stakeholders from Benue state following the recent killing of seventy three people by suspected Fulani herdsmen. According to Punch, those billed to attend the meeting include the Governor, Samuel Ortom, traditional rulers in the state, opinion leaders as well as heads of security agencies.
A source in the Presidency was quoted as saying
“The urgent meeting is inevitable because of the frequency and scale of such violence and the reactions that have trailed the incidents. The Presidency has been embarrassed by the large scale loss of lives caused by such repeated violence against innocent people.”
“Discussions at the meeting will address the issue of the Fulani herdsmen, which is at issue but may go beyond their menace to include the issue of the arming, training and financing of militia groups by some state governments,” he added.
Recall that some armed militias who were arrested shortly after the attack in Benue claimed that they were armed by the state government.
