The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff has accused ex-ministers in the party of contributing largely to the misfortune of the party, requesting them to publicly declare their sources of wealth.
The Chairman of the party who stated this on Tuesday during a brief interview with newsmen in Abuja disclosed that the corrupt ministers had so much money that they attempted to hijack the party from the people.
According to him, "this group of persons (ministers) has a lot of money, money from sources that cannot be explained and their opinion is that they can buy the party.
But Sheriff has said no, that the party is not for sale and so they know who to support and they know the people they can buy. The party is for the masses and the governors have said that whatever comes out of the Supreme Court, that is how the party would be,” he added.
His remarks came a day after the ex-minister held a crucial meeting in Abuja to chart a new course for the party. After the meeting, they threw their weight behind the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee describing Sheriff as a friend of the ruling party, planted to derail the PDP.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is yet to rule on an appeal seeking to determine the authentic National Chairman of the Party.
