Following claims by the Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom that the armed Fulani herdsmen who recently invaded the state and killed over seventy people are camping in Tunga Village, Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, the Inspector General of Police has reacted to the allegation in a bid to clear the air.
The IGP debunked the claim made by the Governor. He explained that having spoken directly with Fulani people in the area, he was convinced that the armed militias are not being camped in Tunga.
According to him;
“I am here in Tunga today (yesterday); about three days ago, I was in Benue state and just sitting in the Benue stakeholders’ meeting, the governor was making allegations that militia men are trained in Tunga, but I am surprised. From what the chairman said now, nothing like that has happened. I have spoken to the Fulani men and Tiv people here and all of them confirmed that there are no militiamen in Tunga. Obviously, as the IGP, sent here by the President, I am happy to hear that."
“Nobody has the right to attack another person; so, we are going to reinforce the number of mobile men, so they can identify areas where there are build-ups,” he added.
Recall that Governor Samuel Ortom had alleged that the herdsmen who attacked Benue state came from Tunga and have since returned to their base for further possible attack.
