Details of an earlier closed-door meeting between the Nigerian Senate and the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu have emerged.
The IGP had on Tuesday honored an earlier invitation extended to him by the Nigerian Senate to address the spate of insecurity in some parts of the country.
The IGP who arrived the National Assembly about 11:15 was ushered into the Senate chamber about 11:20 for a closed-door meeting. The meeting lasted barely two hours.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki who disclosed what transpired on the floor of the Red Chamber said issues relating to banditry, robbery, kidnapping and other terrorist activities were deliberated upon.
“We deliberated on areas of banditry, robbery, terrorism activities and other security challenges in the country.
“The Nigeria Police promised to put more efforts to ameliorate the situation and hoped to address the menace squarely.
“IGP also promised to address areas that have to do with indiscipline of officers that have been found wanting, particularly the alleged abuse of some ladies by some policemen who were at a night club in Abuja.
“Adamu has assured that efforts would be made on the situation of insecurity along Abuja-Kaduna highway and also on the area of intelligence gathering.
”The Senate also promised to appropriate adequate funding to enable the police combat the necessary stress to our security”.
