The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, blow hot said religious and traditional leaders whom are being seen as the custodian of people and to hold political leaders accountable have been cowed into silence.

 The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, on Monday warned all local and foreign interests to exhibit more commitment and restraint on issues relating to national security and avoid taking sides. Buratai said all their actions and utterances must be tailored towards supporting the national cause with a view to restoring peace and tranquility to Nigeria. 

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar has condemned the killing of Pastor Lawan Andimi, the Christian Association of Nigeria branch chairman of Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State by Boko Haram. 

An Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has appealed to Nigerian Military not to withdraw soldiers deployed to the North East as insurgents, though degraded, still have capacity to launch daring attacks that could cause maximum impact.
