President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the African Counter-Terrorism Summit, which will take place in Abuja on Monday, April 22, 2024. The summit is a high-level conference organized by Nigeria in collaboration with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and will run for two days from April 22 to 23. According to Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the President on media and publicity, the summit will focus on counter-terrorism efforts in Africa.
The summit's theme is "Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism." The objective is to improve multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation and reshape the international community's collective response to terrorism in Africa, with a focus on African-led and African-owned solutions.
The summit's main objective is to serve as a platform for African nations to unite and tackle the ever-growing threat of terrorism to promote peace and stability throughout the continent. The event will witness the attendance of heads of state and government, high-ranking government officials, representatives of international organizations, and members of civil society who will come together to assess the threat of terrorism on the continent and agree on strategic priorities and measures to combat it.
The event will promote regional collaboration, institutional capacity building, and information exchange to counter-terrorism in Africa.
Notable attendees at the summit include Ms. Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA), and Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, UNOCT Under-Secretary-General, who will deliver concluding remarks.
