Deadpool 2 is already cracking up the box office records, proving that audiences still aren’t done with superhero movies.
The Marvel super hero movie, racked in an estimated $125 million domestically and another $176 million overseas, giving it a $301 million weekend total.
The R-rated action film was able to knock Avengers: Infinity War out of the number one slot at the box office over the weekend, although it wasn’t able to beat the record-breaking $132.4 million opening of the first Deadpool film.
That means that the Deadpool franchise now sits at the number one and number two slots for largest opening weekends for R-rated films.
It is noteworthy that the Deadpool movies have modest budgets compared to other big names in the superhero world. Deadpool 2 was made for an estimated $110 million, which was a huge jump up from the first movie’s $58 million budget. Compare that to the $200 million budget for Black Panther, or the reported $300 million budget of Avengers: Infinity War.
Deadpool, it turns out, is a pretty excellent business for 20th Century Fox to be in.
