Contrary to widespread report that North Philly rapper Robert Rihmeek Williams, better known by his stage name Meek Mill will be released on Monday, April 16, 2018, one of his Attorneys, Joe Tacopina says the there is no information on his release date yet. On Thursday, the report of his release went viral after DJ First Class tweeted "Meek Mill will be released Monday after court hearing". The tweet sent his fans into jubilation.
Tacopina explained that Monday's hearing is simply a status conference before Brinkley. He added that they're still waiting to hear from the judge about what specifically will be discussed at the hearing.
Fader.com reports that the District Attorney's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Recall that the District Attorney Larry Krasner has said his office will not oppose the rapper's release on bail pending the outcome of Williams' appeal for post-conviction relief.
Williams' lawyers are asking Brinkley to overturn his conviction and grant him a new trial in the original gun and drug case, citing testimony from police officers.
The motion claims former Philadelphia police Officer Jerold Gibson accused arresting Officer Reggie Graham of lying about the circumstances of Williams' arrest. Graham falsely accused the then-19-year-old Williams of pointing a gun at him outside a Philadelphia drug house, according to Gibson's testimony in the motion.
Meek Mill's 2007 charges has come under intense scrutiny after his arresting officer Reginald Graham was named on a secret list of police officers "a history of lying, racial bias, or brutality" held by the D.A.'s office. Graham was also accused of lying about his encounter with Mill by former police officer Jerold Gibson, who claimed Graham lied when he testified that the 19-year old pointed a gun at him.
