The Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) announced on Monday via its official Twitter handle that Starlink is currently available in Nigeria, adding that it is the first African country to commence operations. Starlink is a satellite internet service that was launched in 2019 by Elon Musk, the owner of SpaceX, and the social media platform, Twitter.
The company stated that interested customers can purchase the Starlink hardware for around N274,098 while the monthly subscription fee is N19,260.
According to the company, customers would receive the hardware 1 to 2 weeks from the date of order, adding that customers can enjoy its services at a cheaper rate with a 30-day free trial.
In 2021, Starlink commenced discussions with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) regarding introducing its product into the Nigerian market.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami along with other top dignitaries was at the company’s headquarters in the United States in December 2022 to finalize the deal.
