NIGCOMSAT: President Buhari Appoints Funtua As MD

President Muhummadu Buhari has approved with immediate effect, the appointment of Engr. Tukur Funtua, as the new Managing Director (MD) of Nigeria Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), following the retirement of the agency’s MD, Dr. Abimbola Alale. This was made known on Friday in a press statement issued by Uwa Suleiman, the Senior Special Assistant, Media to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami.


According to the statement, prior to his appointment as MD, Tukur, a trained chemical engineer, was the Director of Health Community Affairs, Safety, and Environment at BUA Cement PLC and has held other several key positions in companies such as Lafarge Africa Plc, Dangote Cement Plc, amongst others.

The statement further said, “Engineer Tukur, who has 30 years professional experience in manufacturing, process engineering, health, production, safety and environmental management, communications, and various other fields, is a Chartered Environmentalist at the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers and the Professional Leadership Practitioners Institute.

“He is a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a member of numerous professional bodies and institutes”.

NIGCOMSAT is under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
