Microsoft Corporation is organizing a 3-year plan to equip 5 million Nigerians with digital skills. This would be done in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria towards a sustainable digital economy.
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo announced on Monday that the partnership was a result of discussions held with Microsoft Corporation President, Brad Smith.
Osinbajo said, "Our government is committed to leveraging innovation and technology to bring better outcomes across wide areas of governance concerns."
The tech giant announced on its news page that it plans to build on 3 key pillars which include connectivity, skilling, and digital transformation.
Microsoft President, Brad Smith said, "We believe in the future of Nigeria and we are excited as a company to add to our investments.
"Together, we have an enormous opportunity to put technology to work, create jobs, foster the technology ecosystem across Nigeria, and use technology to preserve the best of the past and take us into the future.
"We are setting ourselves a big goal, to bring access to digital skills to 5 million people in Nigeria over the next 3 years", he said.
Microsoft also plans to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by designing advanced technologies like artificial intelligence to assist in reducing corruption.
Microsoft will also work with the National Institute of Cultural Orientation to preserve and revive Nigeria's 3 major indigenous languages: Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo.
