The Nigerian Mobile network Operators have gained additional 11.15 million additional active internet users into cyberspace to hit 122.79 million in September 2019.  The statistics were contained in a report obtained from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).

The record revealed it the increased users represented a 10% increase in the number of internet users in the country from 111.63 million last December to the present 122.79 million users.

 

The records further revealed that MTN Airtel have the highest number of internet subscribers during the reviewing period while 9mobile lost some subscribers. New internet users were added on the 800 MHz spectrum owned by the MTN.


According to the data, MTN added the highest number of the new internet users to its network of up to 7.78 million users in the 10 months under consideration shooting its subscribers in September to 51.68 million from its previous 43.9 million in December last year.


Further analysis of the data revealed that Airtel was next with 3.44 million new Internet users, raising its subscribers to 33.20 million in September as against 29.76 million recorded in last December.


However, 9mobile lost about 1.45 million of its Internet subscribers as its subscription dropped to 8.47 million from 9.92 million in the last 10 months.


Meanwhile, Globacom gained 1.31 million new Internet users in 10 months to hit 29.37 Internet subscribers in September from 28.05 subscribers in December last year.


This was against the record that Nigeria has been named among the top 10 countries with the most affordable Internet prices based on the monthly average income in the country.


Other African countries considered with a low cost of accessing and using the Internet are Egypt, Sudan, Gabon, Mauritius and Tunisia, as revealed by the Mobile Broadband Pricing report obtained from the Alliance for Affordable Internet.
