Global search engine, Google has announced that it would be making a donation of $3.1 million to online encyclopedia, Wikipedia this year. According to TruNews, the announcement was made during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.


The donations to the Wikimedia foundation is aimed at ensuring Wikipedia remains viable. Also, Google stated that the Wikipedia editors would have free access to various Google machine learning tools that will aid in creating contents across 10 languages in India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, the MiddleEast and North Africa region.


Google will also provide Wikipedia access to its Custom search API and Cloud Vision API to enable easy and fast finding of fact articles by editors, as well as translate articles to 121 languages.
