The Google News Initiative has launched a $3 million global open fund “COVID-19 Vaccine Counter Misinformation Open Fund” to curb misinformation of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Google global fund will support journalists in effective fact-checking of misinformation about the immunisation process.

The tech company said, “While the COVID-19 infodemic has been global in nature, misinformation has also been used to target specific populations.”

“Some of the available research also suggests that the audiences coming across misinformation and those seeking fact checks don’t necessarily overlap.”

The Initiative in December pledged $1.5 million for the COVID-19 vaccine media research hub to support fact-checking against misinformation.
