The Mobile World Congress(MWC) in Barcelona set to hold between February 24-27, 2020 has been met with some negative as some companies like Sony, Amazon have pulled out of the major telecommunication conference following the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in Wuhan, China.
Amazon which planned a full-day conference to showcase its AWS cloud computing, said, “Due to the outbreak and continued concerns about the novel coronavirus, Amazon will withdraw from exhibiting and participating in Mobile World Congress 2020.”
The online company pulled became the fourth after South Korea's LG Electronics, Swedish equipment maker, Ericsson and U.S' chipmaker, NVIDIA.
However, Chinese companies, Huawei and ZTE have assured their attendance and have advised the china-based staff to self isolate before the event.
The organisers, GSMA said the event will hold as planned, adding that health precautions would be tightened against any contamination of the coronavirus during the period of the event.
Both Sony and Japanese wireless carrier, NTT Docomo announced their withdrawal from the event on Monday.
Sony in a statement said its launch event would be done via video.
While the MWC in 2019 attracted 2,400 participants and boosted Barcelona's economy with about 470 million euros ($515 million), this year's event is supposed to cater for 100,000 from across the world.
