The Nigeria Army says it has acquired new technologies like drones to aid the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast. According to the NAN, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, made the assertion during a media interactive and dinner session organized for editors and defense correspondents on Saturday in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Buratai disclosed the adoption of new technologies was to ensure effective and successful operations in the ongoing counter insurgency operation.


He disclosed that the Nigerian Army will continuously research on innovative and scientific methods to develop the equipments to achieve successful operations.


The Army chief said, "We are also working on deployment of drones, the Nigerian Air Force has been deploying drones in our operations in the northeast and they are deploying more, it has been very effective in this operation.


"For surveillance, local drones are deployed and when new ones are also deployed, it will be effective and useful in the operation."


Buratai, also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his continuous support to the military.


He further reiterated the Nigeria Army's commitment to end insurgency in the Northeast and remain professional in the discharge of their duties.


While appreciating the media's efforts towards effective coverage of the anti-insurgency campaign, Buratai urged for an improved media-military relation so as to counter terrorist propaganda and other slanderous campaigns against the Nigerian Army.
