COVID-19: China Locks Down World Biggest Tech Hub

Chipmakers, mobile phone makers, cars and electronics makers have all shut down their services in Shenzhen as China imposed a locked-down on the world's second-largest "Silicon Valley" and fourth-largest port as  COVID-19 cases continue to surge within the region. Shenzhen, a Chinese city and a major tech hub with a population of over 17.5 million has been locked down, residents have been ordered not to leave unless necessary and public transport has been halted as the country battles its worst outbreak in two years.

Google’s Two Step Verification Reduces Account Hacks

The search engine announced at the end of 2021 that it would automatically enable two-step verification (2SV) for its 150 million users to increase security on its platform. According to Google, accounts with 2SV are less likely to be hacked compared to accounts protected with just a password.

NIN: President Buhari Okay Access Into Subscribers’ Details

President Muhammadu Buhari has given his consent to security agencies to access subscribers’ details through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database when carrying out their lawful duty. Consequently, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, disclosed, his office has since written to security agencies conveying Mr. President’s approval to that effect. Pantami made these remarks on a sideline during the LEAP 22, a technology event that was hosted in Saudi Arabia.

FG Direct All Public Offices To Stop Using Gmail, Yahoo Mail For Official Dealings

In an effort to safeguard official communications emanating from public offices, and its top-level domain the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the National policy on Government domain to henceforth stop using generic that is not official. Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami made this known while addressing State House Correspondents shortly after the FEC meeting chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo yesterday at the State House, Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari has today given the approval for the creation of a new agency, the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau (NDPB). The agency was a result of a recommendation forwarded by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, for the protection of data and privacy of Nigerians in line with Global best practices.
