Facebook has on Wednesday launched its dating service, Facebook Dating in 32 European countries, the social media company said after it postponed the release of the services following regulatory concerns. According to Reuters, Facebook had in February announced the postponement of the dating services after complaints were raised by Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner (DPC), the main regulator in the European Union (EU) for several tech companies including Facebook. However, the services were launched in September last year in the United States and 20 other countries.
The company says the dating profiles would be taken from Facebook and users would be unable to edit their profiles in the dating service.
Kate Orseth, Facebook Dating product manager said users can choose to create a dating profile on their Facebook profile and delete it at any time without deleting their Facebook account.
She added that the last names of users would not be displayed, giving the option to choose to share other personal information on their profiles.
