Google announced that Street View is now available in Nigeria. Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, was in attendance at the ongoing Google for Nigeria event taking place in Lagos when the announcement was made. Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps which allows people explore world landmarks, discover natural wonders, and step inside locations such as museums, arenas, restaurants, and small businesses from the comfort of their homes.
Basically, allowing you experience places before visiting them. It was launched globally in 2007 in several cities and rural areas worldwide. Google Street View displays panoramas of the stitched images, most of the photography is done by car, but some by other means.
On September 1, 2009, Google started collecting images in Africa spanning South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal and Uganda. Now, the Nigerian coverage, which was scheduled for 2017, has started. The coverage starts with Lagos: there's now over 10km of footage of Lagos available on Google Street View via Maps; the expansion to other states will happen soon.
The ongoing week long #GoogleForNigeria event being held at the Landmark Event Center, Victoria Island, Lagos, witnessed a surprise appearance by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google. The tech giant CEO had earlier posted a picture of Computer Village, on his twitter handle.
