WhatsApp To Introduce Message Yourself Feature

The popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp has announced it will introduce a new feature called Message Yourself which allows users of WhatsApp to send messages to their own accounts. WhatsApp stated the new feature would be useful for to-do-list, reminders or draft messages meant to be sent later, adding that the message can also be pinned and archived.

FG Instructs NITDA, NCC To Support Tech Innovators

The Federal Government through its Minister of Communications and Digital Economy who also doubles as the chairman of the World Summit on the Information Society Prof. Isa Pantami has instructed the seven champions of the WSIS to receive the support and collaboration of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Nigeria Communications Commission(NCC), and Galaxy Backbone Limited, to ensure that their innovative solutions are of global benefits. The WSIS event took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and had technical sessions that gave youths around the world the privilege to work and submit projects covering e-health, e-agriculture, e-education, and other fields. The seven-person who emerged winners were Afrilingo by Franca Umasoye Igwe, who came out tops as the winner of the WSIS 2022 Hackathon.

Microsoft Permanently Shuts Down Internet Explorer

Tech giant, Microsoft is scheduled to permanently shut down its iconic browser, Internet Explorer (IE) on June 15, 2022. In April this year, the company advised organizations utilizing IE to proactively retire the browser. The company said, “Instead of waiting, we recommend that you schedule your own internal retirement date, the best way to prepare for IE disablement after June 15 is to proactively retire IE in your organizations before June 15.

5G Rollout: NCC Grants Mafab 5-Months Extension

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has granted Mafab Communications Limited a five-month extension to launch 5G services nationwide due to its inability to meet the rollout commencement date of August 24, 2022.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has banned the importation of subscriber identity module (SIM) cards. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami made the announcement on Monday in Oniru, Lagos.

NCC: MTN, Mafab To Launch 5G Services From August 24

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced that MTN Nigeria and Mafab Communications Limited would commence fifth-generation (5G) services from August 24, 2022. The Commission stated that this was confirmed by its management during a Board’s Special Meeting chaired by its Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta.
