African reigning Track & Field sensation Tobi Amusan has set a new World record in the women’s 100m hurdles in the just concluded 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon, smashing the world record not once but twice in the process to win gold in women’s 100 meters hurdle.
She finished the race in 12.062s beating her own record in the semifinals and also set Africa’s fastest time in the event on Saturday.
She became the first Nigerian athlete in history to ever set a World Record in any international event.
The previous world record was held by America’s Keni Harrison, who finished in 12.20s in 2016. Amusan’s time is the most significant time drop for a world record in this event for 42 years.
Jamaica’s Brittany Anderson finished second in the final to take silver, while Olympic gold medalist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico finished third.
Another Nigerian, Ese Brume also won a silver medal in the long jump silver.
