The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced that Professor Ken Anugweje is the newly appointed head of the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission of AFN. This was announced on Thursday in a statement by AFN President, Tonobok Okowa.
This decision was made after the shocking disqualification of 10 Nigerian athletes at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics competition by the Athletics Integrity Unit due to their inability to meet the anti-doping requirements of the Olympics competition.
The statement read, “The AFN bears responsibility for any lapses that may have occurred during the process and reassures Nigerians that our performances will not be negatively impacted.
“The president of the AFN, Tonbok Okowa, has taken proactive steps to avoid future occurrences by appointing Professor Ken Anugweje as the head of the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission of the Federation.”
