Novak Djokovic On Course To Become World Number 1

7-time champion Novak Djokovic came back from being down 1-4 in the first set to defeat the 6-time winner Roger Federer 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 and will face off with the winner of the second semi-final between Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem.

Novak Djokovic who is set to appear in his 8th final appearance at the Australian Open continued his winning streak against Roger Federer with a straight-sets victory in the semi-final on Thursday.

The Serbian hasn't lost to Federer at Melbourne Park since 2007 and he is yet to lose a final till date (7 finals he has played) and is one win away from extending another streak if he clinches glory will become world number 1.

There were doubts over Federer's fitness after a five-set win over Tennys Sandgren in the quarterfinals. The 20-time major champion took a brief medical timeout after Djokovic won the first set 7-6 (1).

Djokovic then broke Federer in the last game of the second set to clinch it 6-4.

Defending champion Djokovic kept up the pressure on the 38-year-old Swiss in the third set as well and the crucial break came for him in the sixth game with a forehand groundstroke winner for a 4-2 lead.

The 32-year-old, winner of 16 Grand Slam titles, sealed his win over Federer with his first match point when the Swiss legend found the net with a backhand for his 35th unforced error of the night.
