Former Chelsea striker, Diego Costa has revealed the reason why he insisted on returning to his boyhood club after being declared surplus to requirement by Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte at the end of last season. Costa after receiving the infamous text message from Conte had refused to return to Chelsea at the end of the summer break.
He accused the club of treating him as a criminal and attempting to ship him to China against his wish. Atletico eventually signed him but his eligibility to feature for the club was affected by an already served-out ban. He has since started featuring for the club, scoring a brace on his return.
The Spain international while speaking with Atletico media said all he wanted was to play in Atletico shirt again. He also thanked the fans for voting him as the player of the month.
"To play again for this shirt and team, I really wanted that. I thank the fans for their love. This prize is something that means a lot, to be back and in the first month to have won [the vote]."
Speaking on the club's next opponent, Malaga, Costa said the encounter would be tricky.
"[Malaga] aren't in a good moment, but we know that they are a great team and that in their stadium they always make it difficult for any opponent. To win there, we have to be at one hundred percent and play a complete match."
