U-17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets Qualify After Defeating Cote d’Ivoire

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have qualified for the U-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place next year in Algeria, after defeating Cote d’Ivoire 3-1 in the first semi-final of the tournament. Cote d’Ivoire opened the scoring in the second minute after Yan Diomandi scored a goal from the penalty spot.


In the 31st minute, Emmanuel Michael of the Eaglets scored a free-kick, making the score line 1-1.

Michael scored his 2nd goal of the match in the 43rd minute after taking another free-kick from a central position.

Idris then made it 3-1 in the 61st minute, after rising to head the ball into the goal.

The Eagles are expected to face the winner of the second semi-final between Ghana and Burkina Faso scheduled for Friday, 24 June 2022, however, the Eaglets' victory over the Ivorians has already secured their spot in next year’s tournament.
