Court Releases Ronaldinho Into House Arrest

A Court in Paraguay has ordered the release of Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho and his brother into house arrest in Asuncion hotel while they await trial on charges of using false passports to enter the country.

A Paraguayan Judge, Gustavo Amarilla on Tuesday has ordered the release of Brazilian football great Ronaldinho, his brother and Fourteen other into house arrest while they await trial on charges of using false passports to enter the country and a possible case of money laundering. An arrest warrant has also been issued to the Paraguayan businesswoman in charge of the charity foundation that invited Ronaldinho.

The brothers were jailed a month ago, moreover, their lawyers have posted bail of $1.6 million, but an appeals court in Paraguay rejected the request to release the pair.

Amarilla told reporters that he had ordered the "continuation of house arrest in a hotel for Ronaldinho and his brother." and that He "has the assurance of the hotel managers that they, at their own expense, can observe house arrest there."

With Paraguay's capital on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, the judge communicated his ruling in a cellphone call to the brothers, with prosecutors, defense lawyers and TV cameras present. The judge and many others wore face masks as a precaution against the virus.
