South Africa is set to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup after the World Cup board evaluation gave recommendation to the Rainbow Nation ahead of Ireland and France, the tournament’s organising board has announced. The World Rugby Council will now meet on 15 November in London to vote on the next host.

World Rugby have released the name of the preferred candidate following an exhaustive technical appraisal of the three bids and have gone with South Africa. France came second and Ireland third, and last, in the process.

South African amassed the highest score with 78.97%, France had 75.88% to come second while Ireland finished third with a score of 72.25%.

South Africa will now be recommended as RWC 2023 hosts by the Rugby World Cup board. The two-time winners famously previously hosted the tournament in 1995.

The board made its recommendation following detailed consideration of the host candidate evaluation report.
