FIFA has disclosed yesterday, Friday that it will release the sum of $150 million equivalent (139 million Euros) to its member countries to help alleviate the financial constrain ushered by the global pandemic of coronavirus.

The apex football body hinted that “all operational funding” for the 2019 and 2020 would be shared amongst its 211 member countries in the next few days as the first leg of its relief plan to assist football communities impacted by the scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, FIFA plan to give each national governing body the sum of $500,000, after meeting up with some criteria, all the fund “that is the remaining entitlement for 2019 and 2020” would be released the apex football body revealed.

The FIFA president, Gianni Infantino revealed that the fund was the first step of a far-reaching financial relief plan the FIFA is developing to respond to the emergency across the whole of the football community.

Infantino in his statement said; “It is FIFA’s duty to be there and support the ones that are facing acute needs,” saying, “This starts by providing immediate financial assistance to our member associations, many of which are experiencing severe financial distress.”

It was revealed the fund came from the Forward 2.0 program, which was launched in 2016 and would provide $1.746 billion equivalent to (1.6 billion Euros) in total over the 2019-2022 period.

Last month the apex football body announced the creation of a football aid fund but has since not given any additional details on its operation or scope.
