African Games: Nigeria Wins Gold In Football, Badmington And Athletics

Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s National Team, Falconetsyesterday won gold at the Women’s Football tournament, defeating Cameroon 3-2 during the 12th African Games in Rabat, Morocco. The team won the gold medal in a penalty shoot-out which the Nigerians triumphed over their Cameroonian counterparts.

The match initially ended in 0-0 despite extra time added. This led to the penalty battle between both teams in the Stade Boubker Aamar outside Rabat.

The game was eventually decided by penalty shoot-out followed which saw Nigeria emerge victorious, after 12 years.

Currently, Nigeria is placed second after Egypt on the medal table with a total of 103 medals; 40 gold, 28 silver, and 35 bronze taking South Africa’s spot and pushing her to third place. 

Nigeria performed exceptionally in wrestling with 5 out of the 6 gold medals, another feat was in canoeing, table tennis, athletics, and badminton.

Nigerians have expressed their excitement for the improvement of the National teams ahead of the closing ceremony.
