Popular Nigerian Poker player, Femi Fashakin, has won the largest event in World Series of Poker history, winning the special “BIG 50” $500 No-Limit Hold'em Event #3 at the 2019 WSOP.

The win was worth $1,147,449 along with his first gold bracelet. He emerged victorious after a gruelling five days of play in an event that topped the WSOP's previous single-event turnout record by roughly 5,000 players.

Fashakin's final opponent was Paul Cullen, a 35-year-old native of Montreal who now lives in Las Vegas. Before Friday’s victory, Fashakin’s career tournament earnings were just $59,706 and his largest score was $11,250.

Most of his cash came from small stakes events in South Florida with results dating back to the start of 2015. This was his first-ever final table.

Besides a life-changing 7-figure score and a WSOP bracelet, he picks up 720 Card Player Player of the Year points. This win puts him in 321st place in the 2019 POY race, sponsored by Global Poker.
