In a bid to combat cyber bullying and online abuse, Twitter Inc. has on Wednesday disclosed that it will be testing new features that would allow users to control who can reply to their tweets, limiting access to a person's tweets.
Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey has since 2018 promised to make improvements in the app to reduce harassment and cyber bullying, after social media firms were accused of allowing unsolicited and negative replies and comments on women and minors on their sites.
“We want to help people feel safe participating in the conversation on Twitter by giving them more control over the conversations they start,” the company said in a tweet.
Twitter, however, launched a feature late last year which allowed users to hide certain replies on their tweets as a part combatting cyber bullying and abusive content on its platform.
According to Reuters, Twitter during a presentation at the annual CES tech conference, revealed its plans to develop a feature which would allow users choose four different settings for replies. The settings include 'Global', which would allow anyone to respond, 'Group', which would allow replies from people a user follows or mentioned; 'Panel', for people mentioned in a tweet, and 'Statement', or no replies at all.
