Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has debunked claims that he is in the running for the 2019 presidential election, insisting rather that himself alongside another governor-loyalists of President Buhari are praying for his full recovery and pushing for him to return for a second term in 2019.

El-Rufai made the clarifications on Friday while addressing pressmen shortly after a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa.

The governor, who described fellow governors supporting the President as “Buharists”, also said he was not surprised by comments credited to the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha al-Hassan, who openly declared her support for the 2019 president ambition of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

According to El-Rufai, the Women Affairs Minister was never really in the President’s camp and is not known to support his ideologies, although Buhari ignored reservations by loyalists in appointing her a minister.

He admitted that the former Taraba state governor contestant was entitled to her opinion and conceded that her continued stay as minister was up to the president.

“It’s the President’s prerogative to retain her inspite of her political views,” El-Rufai said.
