The National Public Relations Officer of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Bestman Okereafor has threatened to lead a nationwide agitation for the scrapping of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) if the Board fails to reverse the low cut-off points approved for admission into public universities and Polytechnics in the country.
Okerafor who stated this on Saturday in a chat with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said if their demands are not met in reasonable time by the Board, NANS will not hesitate to call for the scrapping of JAMB.
According to him “Conclusively NANS will not hesitate to call for the scrapping of JAMB if the decision is not withdrawn without further delay. The national leadership of the apex students governing body, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), frowned at the drastic reduction of the JAMB unified cut off mark to 120, for admission into Nigeria universities."
He added that “NANS sees this as a means of further degrading the level of the already fallen and failing academic performance and excellence in Nigeria institutions. In lieu of this, NANS under the able leadership of the proactive NANS President, Comrade Aruna Kadiri, is calling on JAMB to reverse this inimical act without further delay or face the anger of Nigerian students.’’
Recall that stakeholders in the education sector have condemned the decision by JAMB to set the cutoff point for admission at 120.
