In preparation for the upcoming general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed the voting procedure for the elections. This disclosure was contained in a post released on INEC’s verified Twitter handle on Sunday, where it stated that voting starts at 8:30 am. According to the Twitter post, eligible voters are expected to present their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) for accreditation using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
After BVAS accreditation, voters should check and confirm their name is on the voters’ register in that polling unit and if so, should get authenticated via the BVAS device either via fingerprint or facial recognition.
The voter would then be issued a ballot paper which would be used to vote in the privacy of the voting cubicle, and then the voter should drop the marked ballot paper in the ballot box.
Voters can then leave the voting area or stay at least 300 meters away from the voting area in order to witness vote sorting and counting.
The Commission scheduled Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, February 25, 2023, while governorship and state house of assembly elections are fixed for Saturday, March 11, 2023.
