Mr Emeka Ihedioha, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who is also the sacked Governor of Imo State, has said despite the Supreme Court upturning his victory as the Governor of Imo state, he disclosed his faith remain strong in the Nigerian democracy. Ihedioha stated this on Sunday when he received members of the National Working Committee (NWC) lead by the Party Chairman, Mr Uche Secondus who paid him a solidarity visit at his Abuja residence.
Ihedioha stated, though the verdict came as a shock to him, however, he still believes in democracy and will always respect its institutions especially a verdict from court of competent jurisdiction, he will take solace from God at all time.
In his statement; “We are faithful believers in God and God does not sleep. This will make history in many ways and so this is a historical process, historical action, and I am sure there will be historical answers at the end of the day.
The sacked Governor promised to remain resolute and committed to the ideals of his party, the PDP.
He said he still believes in Nigeria project and will not be deterred by the Supreme Court Judgement, he will always be a democrat and this has strengthened his faith in his pursuit of building a stronger Nigeria.
He called on his party men to be strong supporters of democracy across the board so that they can put heads together to figure out where they missed it.
Ihedioha said what the Supreme Court did will always be a reference point in Nigerian Democracy, saying the electoral empire and the judiciary should be aware they are on a trial.
He explained that what is fundamental is that the matter was directly affecting the governorship election of Imo state and it the foundation of his democratic process.
Ihedioha said it is a time for sober and reflection for people of the state to retrace their footstep to figure out where they would make things right.
In his remarks, Uche Secondus, the PDP National Chairman enjoined Nigerians not to trivialise the apex court judgement on Imo state, saying the party will not join issues with those they considered to be undermining our democracy.
In his statement; “In the case of Imo, we have more questions than answers because we can’t see the figures adding up. These are the questions agitating our minds and the minds of Nigerians.
“I want to appeal to our brothers who are on the other side, to stop trivialising these issues. They are of fundamental importance in nature.
Secondus said they were not calling on any respected individuals to name-calling, but, the figures are not adding up, he called on the apex court to look into it again.
Meanwhile, he called on Ihedioha to exercise restraint and renew his faith where he can forge ahead with truth.
