A Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State, Southeast Nigeria has ordered Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC to refrain from conducting its State Congress today, Saturday, 19 May in the state pending the determination of a suit filed against the APC and ten others. The State Secretary of the party, Mr. Iroeagu Obioma said the court has served APC the order.
Mr Obioma said the suit was filed against the defendants because of what he and those in his camp (Imo Progressives) considered to be “illegalities, fraud, deceptions and conspiracies that have trailed the botched ward and Local Government Congresses in Imo state”.
He also called on the party to call for fresh congresses in the state.
The APC in Imo State is divided in two camps, one of the issues dividing the party is that some stakeholders of the state say ward and local government congresses were held while the Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha and his supporters say congresses were not held and are calling for fresh congresses starting from the ward level.
Another issue that has divided the APC in Imo state is that Governor Okorocha has endorsed his son-in-law to contest as the next governor of the state.
