Former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau is expected to officially cross-carpet to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP today in Kano. The presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and other bigwigs of the party are expected to grace the occasion to welcome Shekarau and his supporters into the fold of the PDP. It was learned that Atiku will spend three days in Kano in other to woo other members of the New Nigerians People’s Party, NNPP into the fold of the PDP.

Meetings upon meetings were held between the PDP chieftains and Shekarau supporters to perfect the defection protocols in Kano yesterday.

A source disclosed that “As I’m talking to you now, we met Shekarau at his residence and we are busy arranging his defection along with his supporters into PDP. We perfected all the arrangements,”

He explained that their party officials are working round the clock to ensure their presidential aspirant and the National Party Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu are well received in Kano to perfect the defection processes.

He said, “Atiku will stay in Kano for three days to articulate and woo many opposition members into the PDP. I am confident that the party will win the 2023 general election.

During his stay in Kano, Atiku is slated to hold meetings with some Islamic clerics, Youth groups, and other important groups to explain his manifesto to them so that they will support his election bid.

Shekarau has been a member of the PDP until the year 2018 when he left owing to the rift he encountered with the party officials in Kano.

The former Governor joined the All Progressive Congress, APC in 2019, in a build-up race to the 2019 general election of the Kano Senatorial for the central zone.

Shekarau had a fallout with the APC in Kano due t the influence of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on the party and joined the NNPP some few months back.

Shortly after, the former Governor could not actualize his ambition in NNPP and wanted to come back to his former PDP accusing the NNPP presidential candidate of failing to uphold the agreement they had before joining the party.
