Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has bragged that being an effective leader is not a function of a political party, following the rift that has continued unabated in the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the last few weeks. The Governor stated this today while inaugurating a dualized Ogbunuabali-Eastern bypass road that was unveiled by a Sokoto APC chieftain, Senator Aliyu Wamako. Wike revealed that contrary to most people's opinion to think that good leadership is a function of a political party, but forgetting that it is from the mindset of an individual.

The outspoken Governor explained that leadership is about individuals, only that the Nigerian law made it such that these individuals need a political party to actual their ambition. The party will let one tell people that he has some certain capacity to deliver.

Therefore, Wike brags that if you take him away from the PDP today into another political party, he can still perform excellently just like the way he is carrying his weight in PDP.

“It is because I have that passion for my people. It is because I have the commitment to serve my people. Take me to YPP, allow to me become whatever I will become there, I will perform. Take me to any party, I will perform. So, it is not the party that makes you perform.”
He said this is one quality that differentiates him from other politicians, that is his passion to perform for the people that he swore to protect.

There is a sustained commitment to add value to life, impact change with the infrastructural revolution and make the state better for all citizens, he added.

The governor said while some of his colleagues have continued to blame the economic situation in the country to shy away from development, he has surmounted the courage to deliver despite the bad economy to Rivers state people.

Unveiling the Ogbunuabali-Eastern bypass road, Senator Wamako applauded Wike for demonstrating a capacity to deliver to Rivers state the dividend of democracy.

Wamako said any well-meaning government should aspire to satisfy the yearnings of the governed, noting that as a talk and do governor, Wike has done adequately well for his people.

There has been a brewing tension shortly after the outcome of the PDP presidential primaries that returned, Atiku Abubakar as the flag bearer of the party and a subsequent selection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as a running mate to Atiku despite Wike getting the highest nod.
