A Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to detain certain category of suspects for 45 days to allow for conclusion of ongoing investigations. Justice Quadri gave the order on Thursday while delivering judgment on an ex-parte application filed by the DSS for an order to remand one Adamu Mohammed, a terror suspect for 90 days.
The Counsel to the Service who filed the motion stated that the request was to allow the DSS conclude the investigation before charging the suspect to court. While ruling on the matter, the judge posited that the number of days granted by the court could be upwardly reviewed if the court is satisfied with briefs from the organization.
According to him "the applicant shall provide the court with an update of the investigation before the expiration of the 45 days; consequent upon such an update, the court might review the remand order upward where necessary.”
Findings revealed that Mohammed is being investigated for acts of terrorism. He was alleged to have divulged sensitive information to members of Boko Haram.
