The Anambra State Chapter of Buhari-Support Group, BSG, and the Coalition of Civil Society Groups (CCSG) have both disowned Tony Nwoye, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the November 18 governorship election in the State.
Both groups made their position known in separate petitions.
In its petition to the APC National Chairman, signed by its state coordinator and secretary, Dr. Emeka Nwaofor, and Chief (Mrs) Stella Obiora respectively, the BSG feared that the APC which had a good chance of defeating the incumbent APGA because of what it called the “Buhari factor”, may now lose out following the emergence of Nwoye.
The group claimed Nwoye’s emergence was fraught with “malpractices” including “swapping of delegates” instigated by Nwoye’s multi-billionaire benefactor who they claimed is an alleged enemy of President Buhari.
The group, therefore, urged the party’s appeal panel to review the outcome of the primaries of it would mobilise its members to support another candidate.
Similarly, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups in its petition addressed to Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mamman Daura, signed by its President, Etuk Bassey Wiliams, and Secretary-General, Ibrahim Abubakar, asked APC to nullify the primary which produced Tony Nwoye.
The group threatened legal action if the party fails to do the needful and also assured of its willingness to “provide all the necessary evidence with respect to all the allegations” raised in its petition.
The emergence of Tony Nwoye as APC candidate in Anambra has continued to spur controversies both within and outside the APC after details emerged of his alleged pact with billionaire businessman, Arthur Eze, to cede part of the state’s IGR to the latter if he emerges governor.
