Contrary to widespread reports that the 'cabal' in Aso rock may have sidelined the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo following the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from a medical trip to the United Kingdom, the Presidency has said Prof. Osinbajo remains the closest adviser to the President.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Graba Shehu made this known on Sunday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja. He said since President Buhari returned to the country, Osinbajo attended all official engagements with him. He explained that those alleging that the Vice President has been sidelined were only attempting to sow seed of discord.
“Quite to the contrary, the Vice-President remains the confidant and the closest adviser to the President. He has attended all the President’s engagements all through the week with the exception of two: one, the VP was away to Taraba State and two, the Juma’at Muslim prayer because he is a Christian."
Shehu added that since the President cannot do everything, there was always room for allocation of task to his aides. He stressed that the exercise of such duties must not be considered as the usurpation of the powers of the President or the hijack of the Presidency.
