President Buhari Seeks Senate Confirmation For NCC, FJSC

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate seeking the confirmation of nominees for appointment in the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC).


President Buhari’s request for the NCC nomination was contained in a letter dated January 10, 2022, which was read on the floor by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawn, during the plenary.

The President is seeking the Senate’s confirmation of Professor Mansur Bindawa as Non-Executive Commissioner of the NCC.

According to the letter, the President’s request is made in accordance with the provision of Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Act.

The President is also seeking confirmation of two nominees as members of the FJSC in another letter dated January 4, 2022.

The nominees for confirmation as members of the FJSC are Nnamonso Ekanem (Akwa Ibom State) and Mahmud (Niger State).

The letter reads in part, “In accordance with the provision of Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigerians (as amended), I hereby present for confirmation by the Senate, the following two (2) names of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, who have been appointed in consultation with the council of State.”
