A former governor of Oyo State, Christopher Alao-Akala has died at the age of 71. The former governor reportedly died on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oyo State. The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress in Oyo State, Dr. Olatunde Abdulazeez confirmed the death, saying “The news of his death is out. He did his best for the state. May his soul rest in peace.”
Alao-Akala was born in Ogbomosho on June 3, 1950. He had his elementary education at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso, and proceeded to the Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Battalion of Infantry in Tamale, Ghana.
He enlisted as a Cadet Inspector of Police in 1974 and later became a Police officer. He was Deputy Governor to Chief Rashidi Ladoja and became Governor when Ladoja was impeached.
Alao-Akala contested for the Governorship election in 2007 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), serving a full term. He defected to Action Democratic Party (ADP) in 2018 and won the governorship ticket to contest for the office during the 2019 general elections.
