Anambra Election: Court Validates Soludo Victory

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has today dismissed a suit, challenging the qualification of the Anambra state Governor-elect, Dr Charles Soludo and his Deputy Governor-elect, Onyeka Ibezim, for the November 6th governorship election that returned him the winner. Justice Taiwo Taiwo, while delivering the Judgement disclosed that the suit lack merit and therefore stand dismissed. The Justice described that suit as a waste of the judicial precious time, saying that courts are not destroyers of Democracy; instead, they are the upholders.

Dr Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his Deputy Governor-elect were voted on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

According to the plaintiffs, the Governor-elect provided false information in the affidavit (Form EC9) that was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and shall be considered disqualified for misleading the electoral empire they prayed.

Meanwhile, the plaintiffs in the suit are, Adindu Valentine and Egwudike Chukwuebuka.

However, Justice Taiwo in his ruling awarded an N2million naira fine to be paid jointly and severally by the applicants to APGA, that is Soludo and Ibezim.
