The All Progressive Congress (APC) National Caretaker Committee says that its congress scheduled for Saturday will still go ahead despite the nay Sayers. There was anxiety surrounding the legality of the scheduled congress following the Supreme Court Judgement on the Ondo state governorship election. In reaction to the Judgement, the Minister of State for labour, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has advised his party to reconsider conducting the congress as scheduled to avoid the effort of futility. keyamo in his statement said, “The planned congresses across the country slated for this weekend must immediately be suspended because it will be an exercise in futility as analysed above. The competence of Gov. Mai Mala Buni to organise the congresses has been called to question by the Supreme Court,” However, in a statement today through the secretary of the caretaker Committee of the APC, John Akpan Udohedehe disclosed that the Supreme Court judgement has nothing to do with their party.

The Apex Court, had yesterday in its split judgement of four against three dismissed the appeal filed by Eyitayo Jegede, Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in Ondo state.

The Judgement which was read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, said, it found no reason to set aside the concurrent judgement of the court of appeal and the Ondo state governorship election Petition Tribunal which stroked out Jegede’s petition for lack of merit.

However, in her stand, Justice Mary Odili, in a dissenting minority verdict, upheld Jegede’s appeal that the nomination of Governor Akerodolu, which was endorsed by governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, was invalid going by section 183 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999.
