The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has today following the move by the National Assembly to abrogate the third tier of government has provoked them into issuing the threat of occupying homes of National Assembly members who are party to the move.
The Local government workers issued the threat against the pending bill before the House of Reps seeking to abolish Local government as the third tier of Government in Nigeria.
The National President of NULGE, Comrade Ambali Olatunji while conducting a press conference in Enugu, warned the sponsors of the bill, Bob Solomon from Rivers state, and any other member supporting the bill of facing the wrath of its members.
At the National Conference, other officials of NULGE were, the National Vice president, Southeast, Comrade Patrick Igwe, and state presidents including that of Enugu state, Comrade, Keneth Ugweze.
NULGE president threatened that failure by the lawmakers to throw away the bill immediately, the workers would stage a nationwide protest in the next five days at the National Assembly, and subsequently would lay siege at the individual houses of these lawmakers.
The statement partly reads. “Our existence is being threatened; we will not sit down and watch. There will be a national protest there at the National Assembly.
“They are no longer representing us, they are representing themselves. Bob Emmanuel, who benefited from the local government system, has now become so disillusioned that he wants the system scrapped.
NULGE called on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP being the platform that brought Bob Solomon to power should call him to order, threatening that any person that is threatening the Local government system is playing with their political carrier.
The union said any lawmaker who claims to be on the side of the masses should not join such an evil bill that is threatening the livelihood of the grassroots, because they will fight them to finish, he said.
