Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has kicked against zoning arrangement as proposed by others ahead of the 2023 Presidency, instead, he said what Nigeria requires is competency.

Fayemi made this statement while speaking at the Channel Television’s program Sunday Politics yesterday.

He was reacting to calls from various regions in the country who throw their weight behind zoning for the number one office in the country suggesting it should go to the southern part.

The Governor said though he understands why those who perceived being marginalized are clamouring for the seat, however, he suggested that “in a country that is multicultural, multi-religious and multiethnic, one of the equilibrating mechanisms is to ensure that those in leadership represent the mosaic that the country is”.

According to him, there are competent Nigeria cut across all strata of the country, then why should the region matter?

Being a personality who was in charge of the APC primaries in 2014 that leads the party to victory, he opined that any person from all part of the country should not be denied as long as the person is competent enough to stir the affairs of the country.

As the year 2023 is fast approaching, jostling for the presidency has started gaining momentum amongst the politicians from across the country.
