The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said that the coming of President Buhari on board saved Nigeria from becoming a failed state “after a long stretch of rapacious and rudderless leadership”.

The Minister stated this in a statement today in Abuja saying, President Buhari coming into office in the year 2015 marks a turning point in the history of Nigeria because, at a time, a substantial part of this country was under the rule and occupation of terrorists. Mohammed said at a time, many Nigerian towns and cities, including the Abuja FCT, were a safe haven for terrorists while the nation’s wealth has been looted dry.

He, therefore, accused those who had a greater opportunity to fix Nigeria on a sound economic footing when they were reaping billions of naira as revenue in the country should not be the same people to point an accusing finger on others who receive only paltry as revenue and doing more work.

The Culture Minister in his statement which partly said,” Nigeria today faces a lot of challenges. But whatever situation the country has found itself in, things would have been much worse but for the deft management of resources, unprecedented fight against corruption, determined battle against insurgency and banditry as well as the abiding courage of Mr. President in piloting the ship of state.

”Nigeria today is not a failed state, but a nation that is courageously tackling its challenges and building a solid infrastructure that will serve as the basis for socio-economic development, a nation that is unrelenting in battling insecurity and working hard to ensure the greatest prosperity for the greatest number of people,”

He disclosed that the present Buhari administration has outperformed every regime throughout the history of Nigeria through doing great things with little revenue, though noted that the revenue has dropped about 60% but have not discouraged the government from delivering dividend of democracy to Nigerian masses.

The Minister chides those who are happy with the current security situation in the country, however, reminded them that the insurgents nearly overrun the country in their presence until God sent Buhari as a savior to come and rallied both regional and international allies to face the problem head-on. Saying they have forgotten because they can sleep in their houses now.

Mohammed explained that with the coming of the global pandemic and the decline in the demand of oil globally sliding Nigerian revenue to stagger between 40-50%, yet the Buhari administration has not relented in ensuring that no single worker has lost his job as salaries are paid at due dates, infrastructure like never before and increase in power output and generation.

He accused the naysayers of aggravating the same fault lines they point to with their hate speeches and unguarded rhetoric and lies while forgetting that national fissures are amplified during the dark days of the economy. He called on Nigerians that what is needed now is peace and unity not reckless statements from those seen as statesmen.

Meanwhile, the Minister thanked Nigerians for their perseverance in this trying moments as against the hardship brought along by the pandemic, he appealed to them to continue to support the administration as it is determined to deliver more people from the economic shackles.

He urged Nigerians for being lucky that who is at the head of the government is not selfish but a patriotic Nigerian who wishes to see every one of us triumph.
